What is the Feldenkrais Method?
Describing the Feldenkrais Method into a neat and tidy digestible bit can be challenging.
I often end up over simplifying my response to make it relatable to the person I’m talking with. I’ll sometimes give them an example and demonstrate how the work can directly influence their everyday movements and activities. Even though my approach is direct and simple, I often walk away from these interactions feeling as though I’ve fallen short in my condensed and limited summary. However, in all honesty, it’s not a bad place to begin the conversation.
The other way and far less savory approach I’ve used to describe the Feldenkrais Method often descends into an endless ramble. This doesn’t happen nearly as much as it use to, but it can rear its head in unexpected ways. Once I get going it’s hard to turn off the tap. Midway through the ramble I realize I’m running on. I try to course correct, but it’s too late. The damage is done – a frozen and lifeless gaze has surfaced over my innocent inquisitor. I’ll walk away from these encounters and say to myself, “Really Sarah? Again?” and then I laugh, because it really is funny.
HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS! Some brilliant and creative souls put together a lovely video that does a wonderful job of summarizing the Feldenkrais Method. It’s engaging, informative and beautifully illustrated. Enjoy!
